Fielders fall to Edmonton, 1-0

EDMONTON, Alberta — The Lake County Fielders (27-27) dropped the first game in a four-game series against their division rivals on Thursday evening. In a game that consisted of little offense thanks to stellar pitching performances on both sides, it was a Fielders’ defensive mishap that allowed the only run of the game to cross the plate.

Fielders starter Julio Medina threw seven strong innings, giving up just 4 hits while striking out 3 and forcing Edmonton Capitals batters to hit into three double plays in the first five innings. Starting shortstop Brad Augustin proved to be the star for the Fielders as he connected for two of the seven hits and teamed up with Brad Payne on two of the three double plays.

The Capitals scored their only run in the fifth inning on an infield error to claim the 1-0 victory.
