Report: Bears pick up second Dallas receiver

According to several Internet reports, the Bears have agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent wide receiver Sam Hurd, formerly of the Dallas Cowboys and the Northern Illinois University Huskies.

Hurd is not expected to have the impact of fellow Cowboys teammate Roy Williams, who is also expected to sign with the Bears, but Hurd could be an able replacement for Rashied Davis, whom the Bears lost to the Detroit Lions on Wednesday.

ESPN.com/dallas writer Calvin Watkins was the first to report the deal.

Like Williams, Hurd is also a big receiver, an element that has been lacking from the Bears’ receiving corps in recent years. The 6-foot-3, 209-pounder caught just 14 passes for 120 yards last season, but he is considered an excellent special teams player, as is Davis, who was fourth on the Bears with 16 special-teams tackles last season.

In five seasons with the Cowboys, the 26-year-old Hurd had 45 catches for 630 yards and 2 touchdowns. Earlier in the day, the Bears lost unrestricted free agent safety Danieal Manning to the Houston Texans. Manning had started 56 games for the Bears in his five seasons, including all 16 last season. He also led the NFL with a 29.7-yard kickoff-return average in 2008.
