Bears sign OT Carimi to 4-year deal

First-round draft pick Gabe Carimi has agreed to a four-year contract with the Chicago Bears in time to participate in the first practice of training camp at 2:30 Saturday afternoon.

Carimi, the 29th pick overall out of Wisconsin, is expected to start on a Bears offensive line that will be reshuffled for a second straight season. Although he was a four-year starter at left tackle for the Badgers, the 6-foot-7, 314-pound Carimi is likely to begin his NFL career at right tackle.

He is the last of the Bears’ five draft picks to sign, leaving general manager Jerry Angelo to focus all his attention on re-signing free agents, namely center Olin Kreutz and linebacker Nick Roach, both of whom are expected back soon.
