North Aurora cop to be honored for rescue

A North Aurora police officer will be honored Monday night for pulling a trapped man out of a burning vehicle.

Officer Michael Quinn will receive the Medal of Distinguished Service from the North Aurora village board at 7 p.m. at the village hall, 25 E. State St.

At 10:48 p.m. May 10, Quinn was sent to Randall and Orchard roads to investigate an accident involving two cars and a motorcycle. One of the cars, a Ford Focus, was on fire.

Unable to open the jammed driver’s or passenger-side doors, Quinn broke out a passenger-side window and pulled the victim through. He then used an extinguisher to put out the fire.

“Officer Quinn’s actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of law enforcement and worthy of recognition,” Chief David Summer said in a prepared statement.
