Fox Lake fire holds fundraiser for rare transplant

Fox Lake Volunteer Fire Department will host an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Melissa Kick from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Kick, 33, of Mundelein, has been fighting Cystic Fibrosis since birth and now needs a rare double-lung transplant. Estimates are her transplant will cost up to $60,000.

The fundraiser will cost $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and those ages 3 to 10. Children younger than 2 are free. There also will be a 50/50 raffle and a tailgating grill. A silent auction bid may be made at kickmemorialfund.bbnow.org.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward Kick’s need for the double-lung transplant at University of Chicago Medical Center. Cystic fibrosis is a medical disorder that prevents the body from absorbing nutrients properly. The disease causes a sticky mucus to form on the lungs to prevent them from properly collecting oxygen.
