Fire swaps Robinson for defender, draft pick

The Chicago Fire acquired defender Dan Gargan and Toronto FC's second-round selection in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft on Thursday in exchange for defender Dasan Robinson.

Gargan, 28, is expected to join the team Thursday. The Philadelphia native comes to the Fire from Toronto FC, where he appeared in 43 matches, tallying 1 goal and 4 assists from 2010-11 for the Reds. So far in 2011 the Georgetown University alum appeared in 16 matches with 12 starts. A right back capable of playing in central defense, Gargan has also spent time with the Colorado Rapids (2005-08), Chivas USA (2008) and the North American Soccer League's Puerto Rico Islanders (2009).

Robinson leaves Chicago after five-and-a-half seasons. The long-time Fire defender appeared in 85 matches tallying 3 goals and 1 assist since being drafted by the Fire in 2006.
