Pitching matchups: The Cubs’ Matt Garza (4-7) vs. Edwin Jackson (0-0) Friday at 7:15 p.m.; Rodrigo Lopez (2-2) vs. Kyle Lohse (8-7) Saturday at 3:10 p.m.; Ryan Dempster (7-8) vs. Jake Westbrook (9-4) Sunday at 7:09 p.m.

At a glance: The Cubs are 1-5 against the Cardinals this year, 0-3 in St. Louis. Jackson went to the Cardinals as part of the three-way trade this week with the White Sox and Blue Jays. Jackson beat the Cubs 6-4 on July 1 as a member of the Sox. The Cardinals are fighting to keep pace with the Brewers and hold off the Pirates in the NL Central. Lance Berkman entered Thursday leading the NL in homers, with 24. Matt Holliday was in the top 10 in hitting, at .314. Former Cub Ryan Theriot is struggling at the plate, and the Cardinals may be looking for some help at shortstop.
