Dist. 214 wins award for budget

Northwest Suburban High School District 214 has been honored with a Meritorious Budget Award from the Association of School Business Officials International.

The award recognizes excellence in school budget presentation and is conferred only on school districts that have met or exceeded strict guidelines. It is the highest award bestowed by ASBO International.

“This award validates the district’s commitment to prioritize resources that will directly impact student achievement during one of the most difficult economic climates of our time,” said Deb Parenti, associate superintendent of finance and operations. “Our 265-page comprehensive budget confirms our commitment to stakeholders by showing the financial proficiency in which we operate.”

To earn this award, District 214 submitted its 2010-2011 budget for a rigorous review based on stringent criteria.

“Our budget is a clear, detailed, transparent document that was well-deserving of this high honor,” said Superintendent David R. Schuler. “Our business office administrators and staff, as well as the school board and all district employees, are to be commended for prudent budgeting and financial planning.”

ING, sponsor of the Meritorious Budget Award program, will present the MBA to District 214 at 9 a.m. Aug. 2, in the Forest View Educational Center Board Room.

Founded in 1910, ASBO International is a professional association of more than 5,000 members that provides programs and services to promote the highest standards of school business management practices, professional growth, and the effective use of educational resources.
