Schaumburg man facing 4th DUI charge

Police charged a 35-year-old Schaumburg man with aggravated DUI following an early-morning crash Wednesday in Schaumburg.

A Cook County judge set bail at $50,000 Thursday for Hector Lopez, who prosecutors say T-boned another vehicle at about 5:15 a.m. Wednesday at the corner of Schaumburg Road and Knollwood Drive.

Police responding to an accident report found Lopez, of the 2300 block of Discovery, about 300 yards from the accident scene which he fled following the crash, Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Jennifer Walsh said.

Lopez had bloodshot eyes and the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, Walsh said.

Additionally, he failed field sobriety tests and his blood alcohol content registered .262 percent according to tests performed at the hospital where Lopez was taken after the crash, Walsh said.

No one was injured in the crash, Walsh said.

This marks the fourth arrest for driving under the influence for Lopez, who has two previous DUI convictions and a supervision, Walsh said.

He next appears in court on Aug. 25.
