Woman assaulted in Mount Prospect theft

A man in Mount Prospect first tried to lure a woman into his car, then assaulted her and stole her necklace when he was unsuccessful, police said.

The man, who was in his 20s, approached the woman at an apartment complex walking trail around a pond at Huntington Commons Road and Hunt Club Drive at 6 a.m. Sunday.

She told him she did not speak English as a way to ward him off. He then put his hands on her stomach and shoulder to stop her from leaving, but she pushed him away, police said.

He grabbed a gold necklace with a pendant around her neck and pulled it off. He ran to a white car and drove away. The value of the necklace was estimated at $500.
