Grayslake skate park benefit Saturday

A fundraiser to benefit the Daniel Barry Memorial Skate Park in Grayslake will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6. The eighth annual Grayslake SK8 Comp will feature skateboards and blades along with expert, intermediate and beginner divisions for competition. Thousands in cash and prizes will be awarded. Barry was a Grayslake High School student when he and some friends led an effort that resulted in creation of the village skate park. He was 20 when he died in March 2004 after a van struck him while he was riding a motorized minibike in Huntington Beach, Calif.
