St. Edward to host 7-on-7 Friday

St. Edward High School will host a 7-on-7 football competition Friday from 8-10 p.m. at Greg True Field in Elgin.

St. Edward, Elgin, Streamwood and Waukegan will play each other in a controlled 7-on-7 scrimmage. There will also be a lineman challenge.

Concessions will be sold by the St. Edward booster club.

Girls tennis

In competition over the weekend, members representing the Algonquin Area Junior Team Tennis League captured team titles in the Northern Illinois District Playoffs in Frankfort, IL.

In the 14 & under division, the team of Hannah Hougland, Marie Beyer, Ashley Kosy, Kailash Panchepakesan, Kendrick Chong, and Nicolas Welker topped a talented Naperville team in the finals, while the 18 & under team of Lauren Steinkamp (Jacobs), Marcilyn Rowan (Jacobs), Kayla Garcia (Huntley), Kinchit Joshi (Jacobs), Elisha Hougland (Hampshire), and Christian Dela Cruz (Hampshire) beat Northern Illinois’ defending champions.

Both teams will represent all of Northern Illinois in their respective divisions when they head to Indianapolis, August 5-7, for the Midwest Section Championships where they will face teams from Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Illinois.

Travel softball

Several travel softball organizations have scheduled tryouts for the 2011-12 season.

Northern Illinois Lightning: The Lightning will hold tryouts at Judson University in Elgin on Aug. 8, 9, 13 and 14. Tryouts for 14U and 16U will be held on Aug. 8 and 9 from 5-7 p.m. and for 18U and 18 & over from 7-9 p.m. On Aug. 13 and 14, tryouts for 14U will be from 9-11 a.m., 16U from 11:15-1:15 and 18U and 18 & over from 1:30-3:30 p.m. All players should bring their own equipment and water, and players under 18 need a parent present to sign a waiver. Elgin Heat tryouts: The Elgin Heat will hold tryouts for 14U, 16U and 18U at the Elgin Sports Complex on Aug. 3 from 6-8 p.m., Aug. 6 from 9-11 a.m. and Aug. 9 from 6-8 p.m. on fields 7 and 8. For further information, email heatcoachcoop@aol.com.

Renegades tryouts: The Fox Valley Renegades will be holding tryouts for 12U through 18U the weekends of Aug. 13-14 and 20-21. Tryouts for 12U each day will be from 9-11 a.m., 14U from 11-1, 16U from 1-3 and 18U from 3-5. All tryouts will be at Jockey Field, 324 East 3rd Street in East Dundee. Tidal Waves tryouts: The Crystal Lake Tidal Waves will hold tryouts for 10U, 11U, 12U, 13/14U, 16U and 18U on various dates and at various times beginning Aug. 6. Fox Valley Royals tryouts: The Fox Valley Royals travel baseball program will be holding tryouts for the 2012 season on several dates at Judson University. Age groups are available for competitive baseball players from 12U to 18U. FVSA fall leagues: Fox Valley Sports Academy will be hosting its 11th annual fall baseball and softball leagues beginning Sept. 6. Cost per player is $125 for baseball and $115 for softball.
