Flood-damaged materials delay pickup

By

Due to the heavy load of flood-damaged materials from the weekend storm, Groot Industries will have to finish collecting garbage in Arlington Heights south of Oakton Street Wednesday.

This week, Groot is picking up water-damaged materials such as furniture, drywall and bundled carpet.

Yard waste will not be collected this week south of Oakton. Yard waste collection will resume next week. Refuse and recycling collection are expected to resume as normal Thursday and Friday.

The south side of the village got flooded worse than the north side, said James McCalister, director of Building and Health Services. Groot crews worked late and brought in trucks from other towns, he said.

All residents are encouraged to send an estimate of damage from the weekend deluge and their names, addresses and telephone numbers to firemail@vah.com. Cook County is gathering this information to seek assistance for governments and homeowners from state and federal agencies.
