Garage sale to benefit Huntley marching band

Instead of the typical fundraisers like candy bar and cookie sales, the Huntley High School Marching Band will host a four-day garage sale.

The sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, July 28, to Sunday, July 31, at 3740 Persimmon Drive in Algonquin, corner of Bunker Hill and Persimmon.

All proceeds from the sale benefit the marching band. Donations are still being accepted and may be dropped off to the location through Tuesday.

Members of the marching band and their families are encouraged to donate goods for sale and to help out during and after the event. Items for sale should be in good condition.

The sale will include a plethora of goods, including furniture, housewares, trinkets and more. Money raised will be used for instruments, music and supply purchases, as well as to offset the cost of competitions.

Some readers have noticed that lunch prices in Elgin are now $2.50, compared to $2.20 in Huntley. That#146;s because district#146;s have three years to meet the federal price level of $2.46. Huntley decided to raise it 20 cents, with the intent to raise it again over the next two years after further discussion. District 158 expects that federal rate to increase over the next three years due to inflation.
