Officials meet with contractors Tuesday

The schedule for massive Prospect Heights road resurfacing and reconstruction will be announced soon after a pre-construction meeting Tuesday, City Administrator Anne Marrin said at Monday night’s City Council meeting.

Arrow Road Construction Co. of Mount Prospect won both contracts for resurfacing roads and for reconstructing streets that are in worse condition, including pulverizing the asphalt on top and using it in rebuilding.

Arrow’s bid of $1.378 million was the lowest of six bids for resurfacing. The bid of $2.776 million was the lowest of five in the pulverization and reconstruction projects.

In 2010 voters approved $15 million in bonds for street construction, and this year’s program totals just under $5 million for the first phase.

Pulverizing the asphalt and reusing it in the new finish probably saved the city millions over hauling it away and bringing in all new materials, said Marrin.

She has already met with residents of Rob Roy Country Club Village because their street repairs will take several weeks, said Marrin. While the cores of the streets in that community were in better shape than expected, many curbs will be replaced, she said.
