Des Plaines mayor: Casino had great opening

My wife, Lisa, and I feel honored to have attended one of the most memorable and historic celebrations that the City of Des Plaines has experienced — the grand opening of the Rivers Casino, 3000 S. River Road.

As mayor, I can tell you I was truly touched by the hard work and effort that went into the planning and coordination of the events that led up to the official ribbon cutting and opening of Rivers on July 18. I want to especially thank the many residents, officials, business personnel and press who came out to support Rivers Casino.

Just as the development of the casino took years and required perseverance and a dedicated staff, so did the grandiose weekend that preceded Monday’s grand opening. The celebration, which consisted of a Community Night, July 15, and a VIP Night, July 17, was perfect in every way — from the classy surroundings, complete with excellent restaurants with exquisite cuisine, to great entertainment, such as Jim Belushi, to being amongst great company — the people of Des Plaines.

Once again, Lisa and I feel blessed to be a part of this fine City. Over and over we are reminded that Des Plaines is great because of all of you. The people are what make the community and the people of Des Plaines are truly Number One.
