Many contributed to BG’s great arts weekend

On behalf of the Buffalo Grove Arts Commission, I want to thank all who braved the intense heat during the Buffalo Grove Invitational Fine Art Festival weekend.

We began the weekend through the efforts of the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band’s new Jazz Band (under the direction of Howard Green through our Rotary Concert series) for a musical kickoff to the festival. From free children’s art activities (planting seeds and making flowers — we kept it “green”!) to adult artist demonstrations, we had something for everyone.

As a village, we can be proud that as we thanked our 162 artists at the end of the festival, they all thanked US for our incredible hospitality and care of our guest artists. This is due in large part to the dedication of our village’s commitment to the arts, Deputy Village Manager Ghida Neukirch, Arts Commission liaison Carol Berman, the entire Arts Commission, a fabulous cadre of volunteers, the Commission for Residents for Disabilities and Amy Amdur Productions.

Each plays a part in putting the “arts puzzle” together to make the festival safe, fun and an event to be savored each July.

Special thanks go to our ancillary village services who so intently provided safety, welfare and first aid to residents and visitors who attended the Art Festival. And certainly, we are most grateful to our Village President, Jeffrey Braiman and our trustees who have so ardently continued the Arts Commission mission of providing the community with a firm dedication to arts programming in Buffalo Grove.

With a new Buffalo Grove Art League, formed by Arts Commissioner Sharon Borstein, we are pursuing our goal of providing a means for all artists, visual or performing, a place to share their talents.

The Village and the Arts Commission welcome your input, suggestions and talents. We encourage you to contact us at BGArts@vbg.org to get involved. Enjoy the rest of the summer and LOVE THE ARTS!
