Rose, NBA stars shine overseas

With the NBA mired in a lockout, Bulls guard Derrick Rose joined a group of stars who took their talents to the Philippines.

Rose’s team of NBA stars defeated a Philippines squad 131-105 on Saturday. According to reports on the game, Washington center JaVale McGee led the NBA squad with 25 points, 12 rebounds and 6 blocks, while Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant scored 22 points.

One crowd-pleasing highlight was a one-handed alley-oop pass from Kobe Bryant to Rose, who slammed it home using both hands.

The rest of the NBA team included New Orleans’ Chris Paul, Sacramento’s Tyreke Evans, Oklahoma City’s James Harden, Lakers veteran Derek Fisher and Minnesota rookie Derrick Williams. Bryant served as player-coach.

According to an account in the Philippine Star, the NBA stars pulled away in the second quarter when Durant, Evans and Williams combined to hit 7 baskets from 3-point range.

A second exhibition game featuring the NBA stars will be played Sunday at Araneta Coliseum outside of Manila.
