Des Plaines man fatally shot

A Des Plaines man was fatally shot Friday night in what police describe as a dispute between rival gang members, Des Plaines police confirmed.

Eliseo Mercado, 26, was shot in the chest after a fight broke out in the parking lot of a townhouse complex at Pine Court and Everett Avenue in Des Plaines, according to a news release issued by Des Plaines Police Chief Jim Prandini.

Mercado was transported the Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said the shooting occurred around 10:15 p.m.

According to Prandini, “an extensive investigation” is in progress.
