The Salvation Army wants to help Northwest suburbanites beat the heat, by turning the Corps Community Center in Des Plaines into a cooling center throughout July and August. If it's too hot outside or you are without air conditioning, come in and take a break. Play games, watch movies or just relax. The center is open daily, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at 601 W. Dempster St.
