Des Plaines History Center has new director

The board of trustees of the Des Plaines History Center has appointed Shari Caine as the new executive director.

Caine had been serving as interim director for some time and has been an employee of the center for 14 years, previously as the archives manager.

“We didn’t have to look far to find our next executive director,” said History Center President Mike Skibbe. “She has been handling the role in an interim capacity very well, and has intimate knowledge of our collections, programs, and future goals. The board voted unanimously to make her the next director.”

Caine takes over for retired executive director Joy Matthiessen, who served as director for 22 years.

The Des Plaines History Center is made up of more than 450 member residents and businesses in the Des Plaines area and is committed to conserving, comprehending and celebrating our past through displays, research assistance and programs for young and old alike.
