New start date for NCAA women’s tourney possible

INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA is considering starting the women’s basketball tournament one week later than usual.

The governing body said on its website Thursday that if the March date is moved, the calendar would be adjusted for the start of practice and recruiting. Other possible changes could include a new start date for regular-season games and conference tournaments.

The Division I women’s basketball committee will present its findings to another NCAA panel for review. No deadline has been set.

NCAA vice president Sue Donohoe says tournament broadcaster ESPN has been involved in preliminary discussions.
