Music events: Hair rock returns

Rock nostalgia

Did you love the 1980s? Cover band Sixteen Candles will deliver all the hits from that neon decade in energetic fashion. 9 p.m. Friday, July 22, at Durty Nellie's, 180 N. Smith St., Palatine. $7. Go to durtynellies.com.

Hair-rock lives!

British rockers Def Leppard cranked out some of the catchiest and most air-guitar-worthy anthems of the metal-crazed 1980s. The band responsible for such guilty-pleasure gems as “Photograph,” “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and “Armageddon It” will take the stage in the suburbs next week to show they can still bang their heads with the best of 'em. 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre, 19100 S. Ridgeland, Tinley Park. $22 to $125. Go to livenation.com.

Folk master

Acclaimed folk-rock singer-songwriter Marc Cohn will make a special appearance in the suburbs next week. Cohn is best known for his song “Walking in Memphis.” He'll play hits from throughout his career, as well as covers of some of rock's best. 8 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, 111 W. Campbell St., Arlington Heights. $50, $60. Go to metropolisarts.com.
