Charvat comes through for Schaumburg

Justin Charvat got a second chance to deliver another big hit for Schaumburg on Monday in the Lake Park regional of the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association Phil Lawler Summer Classic.

Charvat’s RBI double with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the No. 3 Saxons (14-5) an 8-7 win over No. 19 Hoffman Estates. Charvat (3-for-5) also had a 2-run double to give them a 7-6 lead.

Jeremy Hall went 4-for-4 with a solo homer, double and 3 RBI. Brayden Teele (3-for-4) singled to start the eighth as the Saxons advanced to today’s 4 p.m. game at No. 11 Lake Park, a 13-2 winner over Larkin.

Mark Roberts’ RBI single tied the game at 7-7 for Hoffman, which beat No. 14 Rolling Meadows 7-3 in a play-in game.

Hersey 5, Jacobs 2: Brad Moore allowed 3 hits and had 10 strikeouts in 6 innings and Tyler Perkowitz had 2 hits, 2 RBI and a homer for No. 7 Hersey. Sean Reszotko had 2 hits and Tim Scaramuzzi got the save as Hersey plays No. 2 Huntley at 1 p.m. today at Lake Park.

St. Viator 7, Conant 1: Gunnar Kay needed only 77 pitches (58 strikes) to throw a complete-game 3-hitter with 9 strikeouts for No. 8 St. Viator (11-9). Chris Myjak had a 2-run homer and Brian Wilhite and Joe Ferrante had RBI singles for the Lions, who play at 1 p.m. today at No. 16 Glenbard North, which beat No. 1 Streamwood 11-3.

Elk Grove 6, South Elgin 3: Dan Guido threw a complete game with 7 strikeouts for No. 12 Elk Grove (12-8). Peter Kinsella was 2-for-3 and Mike Maize had a 2-run single in the first for the Grenadiers, who play at 4 p.m. today at Glenbard North against No. 4 Bartlett, which beat No. 13 Prospect 4-3.

Palatine regional

Fremd 16, Buffalo Grove 3: Top-seed Fremd (15-3) had 17 hits in the five-inning win. Josh Jyawook (2 RBI) and Connor Bieda (3 RBI) went 3-for-3, Keith Giagnorio was 2-for-2 with a double and 4 RBI and Danny Haduch was 2-for-3 with a triple and 2 RBI.

Jack Andersen was the winner as Fremd hosts No. 8 Glenbrook North, a 14-3 winner over New Trier, at 5 p.m. today.

Palatine 13, Lane Tech 1: Dan Riddle went 3-for-3 with an RBI double and a grand slam and Quinn Devero (6-0) took a no-hitter into the fifth and final inning for No. 3 Palatine (16-10).

Devero gave up 2 hits with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks. Eric Scheuermann led off the game with a homer, Scott Schneberger homered and Kurt Becker had 2 hits for the Pirates, who host No. 6 Notre Dame, a 12-2 winner over Glenbrook South, at 4 p.m. today.

Fenwick regional

Maine West 10, Ridgewood 2: Maine West advanced to play at Nazareth at 2 p.m. today.

Leyden 18, Kenwood 2: No. 10 Leyden improved to 9-9 and will play at Lyons at 1 p.m. today.
