Vernon Hills officials, police officers and Countryside Fire officials welcomed home Perez through the village's "Operation Welcome Home" initiative. He is serving with the U.S. Army 3-7 Infantry Battalion and was stationed at Al Asad Air Base in Iraq. Perez will be home for 18 days, then he will go to Ft. Stewart in Georgia. His father, Efrain is on the right.

"I just wanted to make some money to go the pool and give some money to charity" remarked eleven-year-old Nathan Malin of Barrington of his business venture. Malin who was spending the day with his aunt in Elgin had a steady stream of customers.

  • Mary Homuth holds Chuck Linder's hand Wednesday at the Blue Goose in St. Charles as she thanks him for fixing her scooter. Homuth is a long-time customer of the supermarket and when she stopped coming in employees investigated to make sure she was alright, and found she was having trouble making the trip over since her wheelchair broke. Employees raised the money for parts and Linder, whose wife works at Blue Goose, diagnosed the problem and fixed it.
