Mount Prospect man charged with selling crack to police

A 30-year-old Mount Prospect man faces multiple drug felonies after his arrest this week on allegations he sold crack cocaine to an undercover police officer.

Anthony Garner, of the 1700 block of Sable Lane, is charged with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance at a public park, two counts of delivery of a controlled substance and one count of possession of a controlled substance.

The most serious of the allegations is a Class X felony punishable by a minimum six to 30 years in prison.

The arrest follows an investigation launched June 13 by the Special Investigation/Gang Intelligence Unit of the Mount Prospect Police Department. The unit was checking into reports of a subject selling crack cocaine in the area of the Forest Cove Apartments complex, near Busse and Algonquin roads, police said.

Police said that with the assistance of officers from the Cook County Sheriff's Police 3rd District Gang Unit, two separate operations were conducted where an undercover officer purchased crack cocaine from Garner. Both narcotics sales occurred within 1,000 feet of Highline Park, according to police.

A subsequent search of Garner's apartment resulted in the discovery of additional cocaine, police said.

“This was excellent work by all investigators involved during the monthlong investigation,” said Sgt. Anthony Addante of the Special Investigation/Gang Intelligence Unit.

Garner appeared Thursday in Cook County court, where his bond was set at $85,000. He is scheduled to return to court Aug. 4.
