Bartlett family arrested on drug charges

Mom had cocaine, dad had pills, son had narcotic mushrooms, and daughter had marijuana.

That’s the portrait DuPage County prosecutors painted of a Bartlett family that appeared in bond court Thursday on an array of drug charges.

Authorities said Rick and Kimberly Schoenwolf and their children Eric and Staci were arrested Wednesday after a search of their home on the 1000 block of Trillium Lane following an undercover investigation by Bartlett police.

Assistant State’s Attorney Joe Baumann said the search found Kimberly Schoenwolf, 46, in possession of several vials with residue that tested positive for cocaine, while Rick Schoenwolf, 50, had prescription painkillers, a small amount of marijuana, several pipes and water bongs.

Baumann said Staci Schoenwolf, 20, had 11 bags of marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia and a ledger of apparent drug transactions. Eric Schoenwolf, 18, had narcotic mushrooms and several pipes, he said.

In addition, Rick Schoenwolf is accused of having a .22 caliber rifle without Firearm Owner’s Identification.

Prosecutors said none of the family members had any prior criminal history. They were being held in the county jail on multiple charges Thursday after Judge Michael Wolfe set bail at $7,500 each for Kimberly and Eric Schoenwolf, $15,000 for Staci Schoenwolf, and $35,000 for Rick Schoenwolf.

The family is scheduled to appear Aug. 8 in front of Judge Blanche Hill Fawell.

The investigation also led to the arrest of Shade E. Dern, 22, of the 600 block of Lido Trail in Bartlett, on drug-related charges, police Sgt. Geoffrey Pretkelis said.

Dern was arrested in his white 1994 Chevrolet Lumina, which was parked on the 300 block of South Prospect Avenue in Bartlett, Pretkelis added. A small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia was found inside the car, police said. Dern was released on a $1,500 individual bond with a court date of Aug. 9 in Wheaton.
