Help ‘Stuff the Bus’ for D300 students

Community Unit District 300 will again cram backpacks filled with school supplies into a school bus to benefit homeless students in the district.

The district is holding the second “Stuff the Bus” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, in the parking lot of Walmart, 1410 S. Randall Road, Algonquin.

A district news release says volunteers will collect donations to help about 250 homeless students be better prepared for the new school year. The wish list of supplies includes folders, notebooks, loose leaf paper, pencils, pens, scissors, glue, rulers and gender neutral backpacks.

A stuffed backpack from Walmart costs about $23, the release says.

“(District) 300 is dedicated to making sure all students in our community can enjoy their first day of school with a backpack, new school supplies, and a smile on their face,” the release says. “We need your help.”

If you can’t make it to the event on Saturday, donations will be accepted at the district’s administration building, 300 Cleveland Ave, Carpentersville. Checks may also be made out to District 300, with School Supplies for the Homeless in the memo line, and dropped off or sent to the above location.
