Schaumburg approves two new restaurants

The Schaumburg Village Board approved separate measures Tuesday to help add to the community's restaurant offerings while also preserving the town's historical sites.

Trustees voted unanimously to approve construction of a new Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant at 1430 N. Meacham Road, as well as allowing Wickets Tap and Grill to move into the former Asiago Restaurant location in the Streets of Woodfield.

Officials also agreed to allow more signage for the Chick-fil-A being built on Golf Road.

Tom Farace, senior community planner, said the additions should bolster the town's already strong business atmosphere for restaurants.

“I don't think we worry about having too many restaurants, especially when you're talking about a place like Buffalo Wild Wings with that name recognition,” Farace said. “Restaurants over there do well because there are always a lot of people going to lunch.”

Wickets Tap and Grill will be the third restaurant in the former Asiago space. The location originally hosted Dick Clark's American Bandstand Grill.

Also Tuesday, the village board unanimously approved grants for two buildings in Schaumburg's historic district, giving $2,466.71 for window replacement at 110 Lengl Drive and $900 for roof replacement work on the St. Peter Lutheran Church Preschool.

Farace said it is important, and relatively easy, to maintain the historic district. Because of the small size of the district — which consists mainly of buildings surrounding the intersection of Schaumburg and Roselle roads — there is not much competition for the limited money set aside for restoration projects, he said.

“If one of those buildings has restoration work it needs, the owners just need to apply for the money through this program and have it be deemed eligible,” he said. “We usually reimburse half the amount of the total. Since we don't have a lot of these buildings, it's important to maintain them.”
