Applications for the 2011 Commercial Retrofit Grant Program are now available at the city of Elgin's Planning and Neighborhood Services Department.
The program was created last year with funding from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant that the city received to assist eligible communities in creating and implementing the strategies toward energy efficiency, conservation and job creation.
The Commercial Retrofit Grant Program provides commercial property owners in CC1 and CC2 zoned properties and designated TIF districts with an opportunity to make energy efficient upgrades to their buildings.
The grant would cover half of the costs up to $40,000 for projects that increase the overall energy efficiency of the building.
Informational sessions are scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, July 14 and Tuesday, July 19 in the West Conference Room at The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way.
While this is not a requirement, the city would like to provide assistance and answer questions regarding your application, supporting documentation and type of work proposed. The deadline for application submittal is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19.
All program guidelines and applications are available at City Hall, Community Development Department, 150 Dexter Court, or online at www.cityofelgin.org/DocumentView.aspx?DID=6498. For more information, contact Jennifer Fritz-Williams at (847) 931-6004 or email@example.com.
