Wirtz: Ill. now 'saddled' with unfair taxes

SPRINGFIELD — The company that challenged Illinois' $31 billion construction program says it's disappointed by its failure at the state Supreme Court.

Wirtz Beverage Group objected to the law raising taxes on liquor and candy. It argued the law was invalid because it improperly mixed different subjects, a claim the court rejected Monday.

The company said the ruling leaves Illinois residents "saddled with these unfair taxes."

Wirtz Beverage is a liquor and beer distributor based in Chicago and led by W. Rockwell "Rocky" Wirtz.
