Business Ledger, niche publications earn Inland Press honors

Three Daily Herald Media publications — the suburban Daily Herald Business Ledger magazine, Suburban Parent and Senior Transitions — have won national recognition from the Inland Press Association.

The Business Ledger, a bimonthly publication targeted toward suburban business owners and executives, won second place in Inland’s annual New Business Development Contest. The magazine won in the stand-alone publication category for newspapers with circulation of more than 50,000.

“It’s unique that we are the only business-to-business publication serving the West and Northwest Chicago market,” Business Ledger Editor Kim Mikus said. “Our readers are business owners and c-level executives who are interested in what’s happening on Main Street as well as Wall Street.”

In addition to the print edition, the Business Ledger has refocused its website, dhbusinessledger.com, to provide more breaking business news and insights and developed a daily email newsletter, the Daily Herald Business Edge.

Suburban Parent won second place and Senior Transitions took third in the health, family and youth contest category for newspapers with circulation over 50,000. Both publications are produced by Daily Herald Media’s Niche division.

Suburban Parent is a monthly magazine insert in the Daily Herald with additional targeted distribution that focuses on family-oriented stories and event listings. The magazine focuses on topics such as health, sports and recreation, shopping, cooking and nutrition, books, pets and fun things to do in the area.

Senior Transitions, a stand-alone special section published in December, grew out of an increased need for families to manage the transition of aging relatives from the family home to a retirement community.

Inland Press Foundation’s annual Newspaper Business Development Contest honors excellence among newspapers throughout North America in developing new products and new revenue ideas. Winners will be honored during the organization’s New Business Development Conference being held Aug. 4-5 in Omaha, Neb.
