DuPage County Fair launches photo contest

The DuPage County Fair in Wheaton is launching a new photography contest on July 27, the fair’s opening day.

Contestants using their own digital cameras will be given one hour to capture images on the fairgrounds in Wheaton that center on a specific theme.

At the end of the shooting period, contestants will pick their best shot to be uploaded, printed as an 8x10 and judged by a Daily Herald staff photographer that same night.

The Shootout is open to DuPage County residents 18 and older and is limited to the first 20 contestants who register using the entry form at www.DupageCountyFair.org.

Contestants who register by July 18 pay a $5 entry fee; walk-in registrations on July 27 will be accepted on a space-available basis for a registration fee of $7. All contestants are required to attend an orientation session at 6 p.m. July 27 before the Shootout begins at 6:30 p.m.

The DuPage County Fair Association will award $20 for first place, $15 for second place and $10 for third place.

In addition, contest sponsor PJ’s Camera & Photo Supply, 662 Roosevelt Road in Glen Ellyn, will award $75, $50 and $25 gift cards for the top three finishers.

Contestants also will be able to vote to select a People’s Choice winning shot.
