Submitted by Batavia Park District

The Batavia Depot Museum will present the fifth annual Quilt and Textile Show Friday through Sunday, July 15-17, at the Eastside Community Center and Shannon Hall, 14 N. Van Buren St.

This year’s show will feature several patriotic exhibits.

Visitors will have the chance to browse more than 100 historical and contemporary quilts or stop by the vendor hall to shop for a variety of items, participate in vendor raffles, or view various demonstrations. Show hours are 1 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 15 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 16 and 17. Admission to the show is $6 for the general public, $5 for seniors, 60 and older, and free for children, 10 and younger.

To mark the 10th anniversary of 9/11, Lois Jarvis will be returning with her “Ground Zero” quilt, which features more than 700 photos of individuals who perished in the World Trade Center collapse. Stop by to see this tribute to those who lost their lives on that infamous day.

This year’s show will also feature a traveling display of Navy quilts. The exhibit features quilts from a national challenge hosted by Jukebox Quilts that honors the 100th anniversary of Naval aviation.

At 6 p.m. Friday, July 15 at Kemp Hall, 18 N. Van Buren St., a special program titled “A Collector’s Diary” will be presented by quilt collector and American Quilter’s Society certified appraiser Chris Moline. She has accumulated a number of humorous, eerie and poignant stories about how quilts have come her way or affected her life and others. Learn tips on building and documenting a quilt collection, where to hunt for quilts and how to resist buying them all.

This program includes many of the actual quilts that have “fallen from the sky” into her possession. The cost is $6, and preregistration is required.

This year’s Quilt & Textile Show will feature a live sew-in from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 16. Visitors can watch as participants complete a quilt project from start to finish in just five hours.

The Quilt & Textile Show is presented by the Batavia Depot Museum and sponsored by Prairie Shop Quilts in Batavia.
