Prosecutors charge man in 1993 Glenview slaying

Prosecutors have charged a man already facing charges in two killings, including the death of actor Ashton Kutcher's former girlfriend, with the 1993 slaying of a suburban Chicago woman.

Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez told reporters Thursday that Michael Gargiulo is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 18-year-old Tricia Pacaccio of Glenview.

Pacaccio was stabbed in the chest as she approached her family's home on Aug. 14, 1993. Her father found her hours later, still clutching her door key.

At the time, detectives determined it was a crime of passion, that she knew her attacker, and the killer was waiting for Pacaccio as she returned from a night out with friends.

Authorities say Gargiulo knew Pacaccio and was questioned but never charged. Both had attended Glenbrook South High School.

Alvarez said DNA evidence links the two, and that two men say Gargiulo boasted he'd killed a woman in Chicago.

In 2008, Gargiulo was charged in the stabbing deaths of Kutcher's ex-girlfriend, 22-year-old Ashley Ellerin, and 32-year-old Maria Bruno in California.
