The Brat Tent in Barrington is getting a real workout this week. It continues Friday and Saturday with events for the over-21 crowd: Uncork Barrington on Friday and the Barrington Brew Fest on Saturday.

Uncork Barrington is the village's seventh annual wine tasting, 6-10 p.m. Friday, July 8, sponsored by the Barrington Village Association. Taste more than 45 international wines, sample hors d'oeuvres and listen to live musical entertainment. Tickets: $45 in advance; $50 at the gate.

The BVA donated all the profits from Uncork Barrington 2010 to organizations as the Barrington Area United Way, Barrington Career Center, Barrington Area Council on Aging, the District 220 Educational Foundation, Barrington Youth Dance Ensemble and many more.

Guests will be given a souvenir glass to use and a "passport" to guide them through the tasting experience. Each guest will be able to taste a total of 50 wines from nine regions and one miscellaneous category, with the help of trained amateur sommeliers. Guests will also receive tastings of flavorful foods served by local restaurants and caterers, designed to pair well with wines.

Selected wines featured at Uncork will be available to buy. Likewise, some foods offered by the food sponsors will be available for purchase. Nonalcoholic beverages will also be available for purchase.

The eighth annual Barrington Brew Fest is 3-7 p.m. Saturday, July 9 in the Brat Tent. Sample more than 20 regional brewers and microbreweries featuring more than 50 craft beers. Tickets: $35 in advance (through Friday); $40 at the door. Tickets includes all brew tastings, souvenir glass, T-shirts (while supplies last) and live music. Join the bean bag (baggo) contest and the 50/50 raffle; listen to music from Second Time Around. Food available to buy from McGonigal's Pub, Cooper's of Barrington, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.

Additional places to buy tickets: Wool Street Grill, 128 Wool St.; The Onion Pub, 22221 N. Pepper Road, Lake Barrington.

Proceeds from the Barrington Brew Fest go to the Barrington Area Council on Aging.
