CSX train derails, disrupts Amtrak service

MORRISTOWN, Ind. — The derailment of a freight train near Indianapolis is causing disruptions to Amtrak service between New York and Chicago.

Amtrak spokesman Steve Kulm said the derailment on CSX tracks about 25 miles southeast of Indianapolis affects the Cardinal line that was due to arrive in Indianapolis from Cincinnati on Thursday morning before heading to Chicago.

Kulm said passengers will get off the train in Cincinnati and take buses either directly to Chicago or to Indianapolis to catch another train. When The Cardinal returns from Chicago later Thursday, passengers will get off in Indianapolis and take buses to Cincinnati.

WRTV-TV reported the CSX derailment Wednesday evening on a trestle over the Big Blue River near Morristown sent several cars off the tracks.

No injuries were reported.
