A Mundelein-area man apparently drowned in a private swimming pool during an overnight party, police said Tuesday.
Carlos Gonzalez, 43, of the 21400 block of West Route 60, was discovered dead in an in-ground pool at that property about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Gonzalez is the property's caretaker and lives there but does not own the home, Lake County sheriff's police said.
Gonzalez fell into the pool sometime between 7:30 p.m. Monday and 1 a.m. Tuesday, authorities said. The pool's depth ranges from 3 feet to 12 feet, police Lt. Christopher Thompson said.
Gonzalez was attending an Independence Day party hosted by the homeowner when the accident occurred, police said.
About 150 people were there, but no one saw him go into the water, police said.
A guest found Gonzalez in the pool while looking for a pair of shoes thought to be in the area, Thompson said.
The area of the pool where Gonzalez's body was found was dark, police said.
Alcohol may have been a contributing factor, they said.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
Gonzalez is survived by a wife and children, all of whom live in Mexico, police said.
