Woman denies role of drug death

An Ingleside woman pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges she provided the heroin that killed a Grayslake man.

Linda Armstrong, 35, also known as Linda McAteer, faces 15 to 30 years in prison if convicted of drug-induced homicide.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney James Newman said Keith Meyers, 23, was found dead inside a car that was parked on Clinton Avenue in Round Lake on April 4.

A woman who was in the car with Meyers told police they had bought $60 worth of heroin from a woman the night before and had injected it while sitting in the car.

The woman passed out, Newman said, and was awakened when police found the car.

The woman could not identify Armstrong as the person who sold them the heroin, police said, but Lake County sheriff’s detectives traced a phone call from Meyers’ home to Armstrong and arrested her.

Armstrong is held on $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 12.
