Scary situation in construction zone

I live in Wheeling and while driving to Arlington Heights on Windsor Drive to Dryden on Friday afternoon, I was astounded at the road construction crews who directed traffic through and during a blacktop paving. We were directed within 5 inches of all heavy equipment spreading blacktop and several “roller” vehicles in complete operation. Traffic on Palatine Road was interfered with also.

I was terrified during the 12 minutes I spent in this dangerous situation. Three large dump trucks and three rollers plus an asphalt “boiler” vehicle were in operation with only one flag person in sight. Vehicles moved in several directions during this operation. Cars were covered in the spray and debris.

Who would allow such a disorganized group of construction people to operate in this unsafe manner?
