Fire damages Naperville apartment

Naperville fire officials are investigating the cause of an apartment fire that injured one person and caused an estimated $70,000 in damage on Saturday.

The Naperville Fire Department was called to the apartment building on the 1500 block of West Jefferson Avenue about 11:20 p.m. Saturday. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke billowing from the building, authorities said in a news release.

The fire was located in a second-floor apartment. It took about 10 minutes for firefighters to extinguish the blaze.

One resident of the apartment building was injured and taken to Edward Hospital. Information about the extent of the resident’s injuries was unavailable Sunday. No firefighters were hurt.

The fire left the apartment uninhabitable. The residents are staying with friends while other living arrangements are made, authorities said.
