Music, food are hits at Taste of Oak Brook

The four suburban teenagers in the band Stockwood made sure that Sunday’s Taste of Oak Brook event got off to a Fab start.

The band, the first one to take the stage at the event, ripped through a slew of Beatles covers with an energy level that would have done the real Fab Four proud. And the band’s Beatles-like aura didn’t stop with the songs. They members all wore dark suits and ties, like the Beatles did in the early days, and spoke to the crowd in well-practiced English accents.

“Something about the Beatles’ music has just worked right for us,” said Woodstock resident Evan Berg, who is the band’s Ringo. “We love playing their songs.”

The early Taste of Oak Brook crowd seemed to enjoy Stockwood’s set, as evidenced by the number of people who crowded around the band afterward.

“We hope to keep this going as long as we can,” said Berg, who is joined in Stockwood by his brother, Collin Berg (John), Woodstock resident John Morefield (Paul) and Buffalo Grove resident Nick Solideo (George).

Of course, live music was just a part of this year’s Taste of Oak Brook, which was hosted by the village on its polo grounds. Ten local restaurants sold their delicious goods at the event, which also included kids’ activities and a fireworks display.

Crowds were somewhat light at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, but vendors predicted it would get crowded as the dinner hour approached. Not that the early birds were complaining.

“The food is fantastic,” said Audrey Henderson, a La Grange resident, as she enjoyed a Gold Coast Filet Slider sandwich from Gibson’s Steak House. “You usually have to go into the city to find food of this quality.”
