Sheriff Don Jones tells the Benton Evening News that it isn't clear why Brown drowned.

The sheriff noted that heavy rains in recent months have raised the lake level higher than usual, making time in the water challenging for divers and swimmers.

Rend Lake's beaches aren't monitored by lifeguards.

Brown's body was found in water roughly eight feet deep.
