Power restored to “virtually all”

Cleanup continues in Lake County after strong storms and winds Thursday night produced a funnel cloud near Wadsworth, officials from the National Weather Service announced. The funnel cloud was reported by a trained spotter about 8:30 p.m., officials said. Officials said they are trying to determine if the funnel cloud touched down in or near Lake County, which would upgrade it to a tornado. Winds were strong enough to rip the roof off the Winthrop Harbor Yacht Club and bring down trees in Waukegan, Beach Park and North Chicago, officials said. As of 10 p.m. Friday, ComEd officials said power had been restored to “virtually all” 145,000 customers in northern Illinois who lost it due to the storm. The company expects to have the remaining isolated outages in heavily damaged areas restored by Saturday morning.
