Caterpillar to add 200 jobs to Georgia

Caterpillar Inc. is investing $120 million in its Spalding County facility and expects to create at least 200 more jobs in Georgia.

The Peoria, Ill.-based company is upgrading its Griffin Engine Center in Spalding County. Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal called Caterpillar “one of the world’s most recognizable and successful brands.”

The Caterpillar Griffin Engine Center assembles engines and generator sets for more than six engine models.

Rod Shurman, Griffin Engine Center facility manager, said the location has been a success for the company because “it keeps us close to our customers and supply base.”

Caterpillar posted sales and revenues of $42.6 billion in 2010. It’s the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives.
