Glen Ellyn man killed in Schaumburg crash

A 29-year-old Glen Ellyn man has been identified as the victim of a fatal Schaumburg motorcycle crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon.

Police said Richard Mitchell was pronounced dead at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village shortly after the 4:20 p.m. crash at Irving Park Road and Mitchell Boulevard, according to police.

Mitchell was driving a 2002 Honda motorcycle west on Irving Park Road when an eastbound semitrailer truck took a left turn at the intersection. Police said Mitchell struck the truck and was thrown from the motorcycle.

“It is still under investigation,” said Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl Wednesday afternoon. “We still need to determine how and why it happened before anyone will face charges.”

Nebl said a 48-year-old Batavia man was driving the truck.

The crash forced Schaumburg police to close down a stretch of Irving Park Road for more than four hours as a traffic crash reconstruction team investigated.
