Crystal Lake man killed in Island Lake crash

A 24-year-old Crystal Lake motorcyclist was killed on Route 176 in Island Lake Wednesday after being struck by an SUV around 1 p.m., according to police.

Route 176 was shut down for approximately 3½ hours as police investigated the crash at the intersection of Route 176 and Hale Lane.

Police said the male driver of a 2001 Yamaha motorcycle was taken to Northern Illinois Medical Center after the crash but died shortly after.

An Island Lake resident driving a 2001 Red GMC Jimmy turned left onto Hale Lane from the westbound lanes of Route 176 and struck the motorcyclist, police said, and was cited for failure the yield.

Police said the victim was not wearing a helmet.

The victim’s name is being withheld by police pending notification of his family.\
