2nd acquittal at NY toxic tower trial

NEW YORK — A second construction-company supervisor has been acquitted of manslaughter and all other charges in a blaze that killed two firefighters at a condemned bank tower at ground zero.

Jurors delivered their verdict Wednesday regarding Jeffrey Melofchik. The jury earlier had acquitted co-defendant Salvatore DePaola.

A judge is still weighing charges against a third man and a company.

The August 2007 fire at the former Deutsche Bank building killed firefighters Robert Beddia (bed-EE'-uh) and Joseph P. Graffagnino. The blaze also spotlighted poor oversight of the building. It was being taken down after being damaged and contaminated on 9/11.
