Mt. Prospect 4th fest begins June 30

The Mt. Prospect Lions Club will be hosting their 73rd annual festival to celebrate the Fourth of July, which will be held at Melas Park, located at Busse and Central Roads. The festival will run five days, from Thursday, June 30th through Monday, July 4th. Fireworks will once again be displayed on the opening night, June 30th, sponsored by Friedrichs Funeral Home and on July 4th, sponsored by the Mt. Prospect Lions and the Village of Mount Prospect. The fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. each night. This year, the Lions launched “A Bang for Your Buck” campaign to help raise money for the fireworks display. Little cans with the logo can be seen in the Village Hall and businesses all over town. The money that has been raised so far is very much appreciated, and will go toward the cost of the fireworks.

Nightly live entertainment kicks off with the singing group American English, a Beatles tribute band, on Thursday, June 30th. On Friday, July 1st, the group, Infinity will be appearing. Saturday, July 2nd, Hi-Infidelity takes the stage. Sunday, July 3rd, will feature Mike & Joe, and on Monday, July 4th the Fairlanes will close the festival. Several other singing groups will be appearing at the start of each day of the festival.

The Miller Beer Garden will once again be at the fair, and alongside the beer tent, a new vendor to the festival, Vino 100, will be selling wine. Joining the lineup of the fest’s previous food vendors, Olympus Gyros, Monica’s Mexican Restaurant, and Panda Express, will be Retro Bistro, Panzanos, Jersey Mikes, and T-Bobs Barbeque.

Carnival rides, games and the kiddie midway will be provided by Fantasy Amusement. A onetime $2.00 off coupon (included in the Lions Club Festival flyer) for unlimited rides can be used on the following days, Thursday, June 30th from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., and on Saturday, July 2nd, Sunday, July 3rd, and Monday, July 4th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Lions flyer will be included with the Mt. Prospect newsletter, which will be mailed out to residents shortly.

On Saturday, July 2nd the festival will hold the Lions Paw Charity Car Show, sponsored by A-Express Towing and Recovery, running from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Sunday, July 3rd, Family Day will be sponsored by Safari Childcare Inc., from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. This event will include activities and games for the whole family. On Monday, July 4th the Annual Pancake Breakfast and Bake Sale, sponsored by Le Peep Cafe & Grill, will be held from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Melas Park.

The Mt. Prospect 4th of July Parade will begin at Lions Park at 1 p.m., and will end at the Melas Park Fairground.

the Lions Club will be selling raffle tickets throughout the festival, and the Raffle Drawing, sponsored by Bosch Tools and Busse Car Wash, will be held on Monday, July 4th from 8:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. The grand prize is a trip to Las Vegas trip (valued at $2,000) Many other great prizes, donated by Bosch, Walmart, and local restaurants, will go to lucky winning tickets. Tickets are $5, or 5 for $20. Winners need not be present.

The festival times run from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Thursday, June 30th and Friday July 1st, and from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, July 2nd, Sunday, July 3rd, and Monday, July 4th.
