Decorate a chair for Frontier Days

The Arlington Heights Arts Commission is looking for participants who have a creative flair. The Frontier Days “Decorate a Chair” competition, on July 3, contest is open to all ages at Recreation Park.

It’s the fifth year for the incerasingly-popular contest. Chairs may be decorated by a group or an individual.

The criteria for selecting the winners is: artistic impression; originality; quality and aesthetic appeal.

Chairs of any size or material will be accepted. No limit on number of entries and one entry form per chair.

It all happens on July 3.

Ÿ Application forms: Available at the park on July 3, to be completed the day of the event.

Ÿ 11:30 a.m.- 2 p.m.: Bring your finished chairs to Recreation Park, near Belmont Avenue and Miner.

Ÿ Judging: 2-3 p.m.

Ÿ Peoples Choice Award voting ends: 2:45 p.m.

Ÿ Award ceremony: 3 p.m.

Ÿ Chairs are viewed by public until 3:30 p.m. when they are to be taken away.

Award categories: Five categories, with first and second places awarded for each, except the People’s Choice Award, for which there is only one prize.

Categories are: People’s Choice; Adult (18-up); ages 12-17; ages 11-younger; and Family and Friends (more than one person).

The People’s Choice Award lets anyone vote for their favorite chair. A jury of fine arts and crafts professionals will select the winners in the other categories.

Prizes are downtown Arlington Heights gift cards.
